Tips to Get Your Child Ready to Start School

Make a smooth transition from the summer holidays to the school year.

There aren’t many school kids and parents that can move from a summer vacation mindset to back to school without some bumps in the road. One of the best ways that parents can make getting back in the classroom easier on their kids is to work on a routine early.

To help get your children get ready to go back to school, here are some practical tips for establishing a routine.

Get to bed earlier. During the summer months, we all love to stay up later in the evening. But when the alarm clock rings in the early morning for the first day back, it can be tough for children and adults alike. Start by establishing a routine before the school starts so that the mornings are easier for everyone.

Wake up earlier. Who doesn’t love to sleep in during the summer months? As you change the bedtime, you’ll also want to do the same for waking up in the morning. When it comes to the first day back at school, your child should be in top form!

Get the big picture. Get a family calendar so that you can mark in important events and meetings! The new semester brings plenty of school events, sports games, and meetings to keep track of.

Gather materials and get organized. Use the time before school to get all of the essentials together: backpack, lunchbox, water bottle, folders, pens, and notebooks. Additionally, set a designated place where kids can do their homework. This place should ideally be away from any distractions, such as the T.V!
